It’s a dull story without lively characters – and really dull history without them. Blue Green is told from the point of view of regular people, not famous ones. Their situations, needs and interactions as they navigate a few days of traumatic events drive the story and help make 6th century Constantinople come alive.

A mad monk in Gaius’ new gang who deftly influences major events in the uprising.
Brother Zazo
A high-level imperial eunuch and a pivotal figure in Gaius’ past and present.
Chrysanthos
Gaius’ boss at the Hippodrome & ruthless agent of the secret client extorting Gaius.
Ammianus
Monaxius’ wife and daughter Martha, who was kidnapped by Ammianus as insurance.
